Company History

1946

Mileham & King, Inc. was founded by William Mileham and Sylvan King. The company occupied a two-story building on 21st St. N.W. in Washington, DC fabricating venetian blinds and window shades. Its primary customers were home builders and apartment communities within the surrounding area. Operations continued in Washington, DC for many years until a fire occurred forcing them to relocate.

1969

After the move, William Mileham retired and Sylvan King decided to sell his shares of the Company. The construction of the Washington Metro Subway System required Mileham & King, Inc. to move once again. Looking for advancement in a competitive industry they chose Rockville, MD, a more suburban location providing an assortment of customers and new opportunities. In addition to home builders and property management industry, Mileham & King, Inc. began selling to commercial buildings, decorators, and residential customers.

1979

Change to Dennis Speisman, long time Office Manager, acquires company.

1985

Company relocates to Rockville Maryland and begins to focus on Commercial work

2016

Hires the Kenny clan, old family friends, to help with the growth Mileham & King is expereicning.  The Kenny clan includes Josh Kenny as the General Manager, Danielle Kenny overseeing commercial and residential divisions and John & Kathy Kenny as minority investors in the company.

2017

As we continued to grow we wanted our name to reflect what we did but we also the history of the name Mileham & King so we added the dba mkBLINDS to better reflect what we do.  So you will now hear us answer the phones as mkBLINDS but make no mistake we are still Mileham & King!  We also decided to expand our residential business as it was an undervalued asset for us.

2018

We hired Marybeth Coffman as our new Residential Sales Manager to help us continue our growth in this segment.

2020

Covid 19 hits and we are masking up and continuing our work in the commercial space. Our focus will be to continue in the commercial construction as the pandemic is hitting the residential side of our industry.

We worked through all of 2020 without laying off any workers and no shutdowns due to covid.

2021

Kathy Kenny (John’s wife) comes on board after retiring from her previous career and will now handle all administrative HR, payroll and billing. We are growing into a real family business and consider all our employees our family!!

2022

Hired Natalia Arias to take over as the Front Office Coordinator.
